ONEAFRIQUE24 TV to expand beyond Ghana

The Vanuatu Trade Commission, Ghana (VTC-GH) and ONEAFRIQUE24 have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch and expand ONEAFRIQUE24 TV, a continental and global news broadcasting network.

Dubbed: “A Strategic Partnership for Africa’s global agenda”, it aims to expand the network’s reach beyond the country and Africa, transmitting content worldwide and becoming a key player in the global news arena.

The network aims to inform, educate and entertain global audiences with top-tier newscasting that will highlight the rich tapestry of African cultures, tackle critical issues facing the continent and celebrate its achievements.

The initiative, in collaboration with VTC-GH, the African Diaspora Central Bank (ADCB) and the Economic Community of the Sixth Region of Africa (ECO 6), seeks to deliver a comprehensive and engaging content that reflects the diverse perspectives and experiences of the African continent.

The launch was also to celebrate the 83rd birthday of the Executive Director of Film Africa Studios, Mr Kwaw Ansah, a revered African filmmaker, historian and cultural icon.

Collective action

The Board Chairman of ONEAFRIQUE24, Kwaw Ansah, said there was the need to embrace African values and languages to foster a sense of collective identity and avoid the risk of cultural extinction.

"We are on a continent where if you don't speak French, if you don't speak English, if you don't speak Portuguese, you are not civilised. This has created divisions among African people and hindered the development of a unified cultural identity,” he added.

Mr Ansah said there was the need to establish a lingua franca that would unite all black people, saying, "we are behaving in borrowed languages, borrowed values”.

“I urge that we strive for a cultural renaissance where our future generations would appreciate the achievements of their ancestors and overcome the current "pitiful situation".

Mr Ansah called for collective efforts to ensure that future generations could continue the work of emancipating Africa.

The Chief Executive Officer of ONEAFRIQUE24, Ernest Arday Quaye, said the network aimed to counteract the effects of misinformation and disinformation that perpetuated psychological divisions among Africans worldwide.

The Vanuatu Trade Commissioner to Ghana, Professor Hugh Keku Aryee, said the partnership aimed at enhancing the visibility and reach of OA24's content and promote the cultural and economic potential of Vanuatu on a global scale.

The commitment to global coverage, he said, would ensure that the activities of the VTC-GH, ADCB, and ECO 6 were shared worldwide to help reach diverse audiences and promote understanding and cooperation.

The coverage, he said, would include support from VTC-GH, covering travel costs for AU crew members, ensuring that stories from Vanuatu were told and events covered globally.

The partnership, he added, would include an AI Africa project, which the initiative would leverage to drive development and innovation across Africa to promote technological advancement and economic growth.

Through collaborative projects, he said the AI Africa project would position participating nations at the forefront of the digital revolution.

“We also plan to organise various events and activities in Ghana and beyond to foster engagement, promote trade and investment opportunities, and highlight the strong ties between Vanuatu, Ghana and the world,” he added.

Investment

The President of the ADCB and Chairman of ECO-6, King Rex Timothy McPherson Semako 1&V1, said they were committed to making substantial investments across the continent and the Diaspora 6th region.

These investments, he said, aimed to drive industrialisation and create large-scale employment opportunities throughout Africa's diverse regions.

He emphasised the need for the African diaspora to reconnect with its heritage and build upon their rich heritage after centuries of displacement and affliction.
