Our bus terminal is safe — Ho GPRTU Branch 8

The Ho Branch 8 of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has assured that its terminal is safe to the travelling public, with business taking place as usual.

This follows a recent altercation between the branch and the Ho GPRTU Branch 2, prompting the police to intervene to restore calm at the lorry station.

The altercation ensued between the two branches last Friday and Saturday, when the executives of Branch 8 realised the canopies at their terminal had been removed by members of Branch 2.

However, the police turned up at the scene in good time to calm tempers between the two sides.

The incident caused fear among travellers at the station at the weekend, with some of them avoiding the terminal.

Press conference

However, at a press conference in Ho last Monday, the Chairman of the Ho GPRTU Branch 8, Francis Aba, said the terminal was peaceful and there was no cause for worry at the station.

He said Branch 8 operated between the Ho Lorry Station and Madina in Accra, while Branch 2 plied between the Ho Lorry Station and Accra Central.

“So, with our different routes, we have nothing to fight over,” Mr Aba added.

When contacted, the Volta Regional Police Operations Commander, ASP Kofi Awuah, corroborated the story and said normalcy had returned to the station.

That notwithstanding, he said police personnel were still on the ground to ensure nothing untoward occurred again at the station.

ASP Awuah said one man who was arrested with a machete during the disturbances was being processed for court.

When the Daily Graphic visited the lorry station last Tuesday, passengers were boarding buses at the station in a calm atmosphere, as each branch operated from its terminal.
