QNET reaffirms commitment to fight scams, misrepresentation

A global lifestyle and wellness company, QNET, has reaffirmed its commitment to help the police and other security agencies  combat fraud in the country.

It said it was stepping up its "QNET Against Scams" campaign to nip in the bud the activities of individuals who are using the name of genuine companies, especially  QNET, to dupe unsuspecting but desperate members of the public.

disinformation

Addressing a media briefing in Accra last Monday, the  Regional General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Biram Fall, said since the launch of the "QNET Against Scams" campaign last year, the company had engaged the public through billboards, TV, radio and online platforms in both English and local languages.

He said these were aimed at educating the public on how to identify and report fraudulent activities.

Speaking on recent arrests of individuals, including 44 Camerounians allegedly involved in online scams, Mr Fall said these individuals were not affiliated with QNET, but had misused the company’s name to lend credibility to their  schemes.

He expressed regret that in spite of all the company’s efforts the company had put in to educate the public on the activities of scammers, of which the media has been extensively  briefed, some media houses still go to the press to mention QNET anytime some scammers had been arrested over fraudulent activities in the country.

“We firmly dissociate ourselves from such unlawful acts and are fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities,” he said.

Anti-fraud

Mr Fall emphasised that QNET was not involved in any form of fraudulent activities and cautioned the public that the company is not a recruitment or visa agency, but the company operates a direct-selling model based on e-commerce, where some individuals have been falsely using the QNET name to defraud unsuspecting persons.

He explained that the company was about promoting genuine products with sellers of the company’s products getting commission from the selling of products, not the recruitment of individuals.

“So, if anyone tells you to pay money to him or her for recruitment or the acquisition of a visa, know right away that the person is a scammer.

We urge the media to help inform the public about this to save them from these fraudsters who are taking advantage of such desperate citizens, Mr Fall said, adding, “QNET products are world-class, peer-reviewed and scientifically approved.”

He further reiterated that QNET does not operate multiple offices across Ghana.

“Our only official presence is a training centre located in East Legon, operated in partnership with Bosomtwi Industries, a registered QNET partner”.

QNET's Global Compliance Officer, Naana Quartey, lamented the damage being done to QNET’s brand image by the actions of these individuals, explaining that the company has strict internal policies and a code of ethics for its independent distributors.

“These individuals are not employees, agents or representatives of QNET.

They are independent business owners responsible for complying with local laws, including registering their businesses and paying taxes,” she said.

She revealed that QNET had provided legal assistance to over 250 victims of fraud linked to the misuse of its name and initiated over 42 legal actions across Sub-Saharan Africa in 2024 alone.

Call on government

Ms Quartey also called for the introduction of legislation to regulate the direct selling industry in Ghana.

“What we need is not the banning of companies but a legal framework that will safeguard consumers, ensure transparency, and promote legitimate business practices,” she said.
