Resurrection of Jesus Christ significant — Most Rev. Asamoah-Gyadu
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, has said the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a great occasion around the world for Christians.
In his Easter message delivered at the Wesley Cathedral in Sunyani last Sunday, the Presiding Bishop said it was for this reason “we are remembering Christ who has risen from the dead”.
Quoting his scripture from John 20:18, the Presiding Bishop, who was ordained at the Wesley Cathedral as a Minister of the Gospel during a conference in 1989, said fear had gripped both the friends and enemies of Jesus with his resurrection after his body could not be found in the grave.
“So this was not an exciting time; the enemies were afraid, the friends too were afraid,” he added.
Significance
Speaking on the theme: “Why the Resurrection Matters,” Most Rev. Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu said the resurrection of Jesus, as confirmed by Mary Magdalene, meant that Christians had a message.
“It was the women who first came and told the disciples and showed that the word of God is true.
“So, if Mary said she had seen Jesus, then it means that He had truly arisen,” he said.
Following his resurrection, the Presiding Bishop said Jesus showed Himself to Mary and the other women at His tomb, showed Himself to His disciples and the two persons on the way to Emaus, and Thomas, who doubted His resurrection.
He said it was just through word of mouth that Mary confirmed of his resurrection but saw Him after which she told them.
Another thing that made the resurrection matter, the Presiding Bishop said, was for Christians to speak of it and testify of it to others and the rest of the world.
“So don’t go and take something and put it under your bed and be misled; you serve a living God, no matter how long it takes it will come to pass,” he said.
Volta Region
From Ho in the Volta Region, Alberto Mario Noretti reports that Christians took part in dawn processions, wearing all-white apparel to mark the Resurrection of Christ.
They later attended exultant church services waving white handkerchiefs to commemorate the day.
At the Ho-Kpodzi Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), Dela Cathedral, the sermon was preached by the Ho-East Synod Moderator of the Church, Rev. Chief Superintendent of Prisons, George Akuamoah-Boateng (retd).
He acknowledged the valiant role of women in society as demonstrated by the women who turned up at the tomb of Jesus only to realise he was not inside.
“So, women were the first evangelists who announced the Resurrection of Christ as they were the first eyewitnesses of the resurrection”, he added.
Rev. Akuamoah-Boateng said women in the contemporary world were flying aircraft at astonishing heights, serving as generals with unmatched gallantry in the army, and playing football with great zeal and amazing skills.
“So, let’s give women the honour due them because whatever men can do, women can also do,” the Synod Moderator added.
The importance of women in society, he said, highlighted the need for an inclusive nation for speedy development.
