Rikair Limited hands over medical oxygen project to Maamobi Hospital
A medical gas supply company, Rikair Company Limited, has automated and handed over a medical gas pipeline project to the Maamobi General Hospital in Accra.
The project, executed free of charge, is expected to ensure uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen to the health facility.

The company also pledged to continue to supply oxygen to the hospital for free.
“Every month or whenever they run out of medical oxygen, we will provide them with the medical oxygen for free.
So the idea is that they do not run out of medical oxygen,” the Managing Director of Rikair Company Limited, Nana Yaw Asante, said when he handed over the equipment to the hospital last Friday.
Mr Asante, who also led the company to pay the medical bills of some mothers at the labour ward, took prescriptions to buy some drugs for those in need and promised that there would be a yearly presentation to the hospital to help it maintain the standards of health delivery.
He said the need for the project was identified in December 2023 when Rikair, in partnership with Breath of Hope Foundation, a foundation that takes care of children in disadvantaged areas, donated medical equipment, including stretchers, screens, regulators, surgical units, boxes of nose masks and a number of toys worth GH¢136,000 for the children’s ward of the Maamobi General Hospital.
Medical bills
In addition, he said, Rikair also paid some medical bills of mothers, bought some drugs for those in need and promised to embark on the medical gas pipeline project.
“We set out to survey and see what the needs were and therefore settled on the Maamobi Government Hospital,” Mr Asante said.

He expressed appreciation to SG SSB and the Breath of Hope who, he said, were key contributors who made the gas pipeline project possible, adding that the idea was to pick other hospitals with other children in need in other regions and embark on the same project.
Momentous milestone
The Medical Superintendent of the Maamobi General Hospital, Dr Dorcas Anfu Okine, stated that the pipeline project marked a momentous milestone in the hospital’s quest to provide quality health service, especially to units which required intensive health care.
“It is worth mentioning that as far back as January 2024, Rikair has been supplying life-saving medical oxygen to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) free of charge and many have been saved from this noble gesture,” she said.
She, on behalf of all stakeholders, expressed her profound appreciation to Rikair for the gesture, emphasising that the project would have a lasting impact on the ability of the hospital to deliver quality health care to its cherished clients.

Medical oxygen
Medical oxygen is essential for the treatment and management of various conditions.
It is crucial for patients with respiratory failure, cardiac arrest or severe trauma, as it helps to maintain adequate oxygen levels in the blood.
Oxygen therapy can, therefore, alleviate symptoms and improve outcomes for conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, heart failure, carbon monoxide poisoning and anaemia.

It is also used during surgery to stabilise patients, anaesthesia risks and support recovery.
