Top-Up Pharmacy supports Graphic's annual free healthcare screening

Pharmaceutical company, Top-Up Pharmacy, has donated a variety of drugs to the Graphic Clinic, a subsidiary of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd. (GCGL), to support its annual health screening initiative.

The medications, worth GH¢30,000, included painkillers, gastrointestinal medicines for stomach issues, medications for minor non-communicable conditions, and a range of first-aid supplies.

They will be distributed to participants of the exercise, which aims to improve the health and well-being of residents in the immediate surroundings and suburbs of the company.

The donation took place during a brief handover ceremony at the pharmaceutical company’s offices in Accra last Wednesday.

The health screening exercise will take place at the Graphic Clinic at Adabraka today.

Vision

Top-Up Pharmacy’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Dr Isaac Nyantakyi, stated that his outfit’s mission was to help alleviate the suffering of persons in communities they operated in, hence the initiative to partner with the GCGL for the yearly screening programme.

"As our mission and vision state, we seek to alleviate the suffering of all the communities we operate in, and so this community outreach is paramount to us,” Dr Nyantakyi said.

He added that communities become better places when citizens, especially the vulnerable, seek preventive health care rather than fall victim to diseases and then later need to purchase medication.

“And that's what we want to stand for. Not a place where people actually come and always get curative medications, but also preventive actions for people to seek to attain,” he stated.

Beyond donations

Dr Nyantakyi further emphasised that in addition to donations as part of his outfit’s cooperate social responsibility (CSR), they also supported people in hospitals with funds.

“As part of our commitment to health care, we supported the Korle Bu Oncology Child and Epidemiology Unit last year. We actually put up a medication bill for one cancer patient,” he said.

Dr Nyantakyi stressed that society played a pivotal role in shaping organisations; therefore, helping the less fortunate should be a priority.

"It means a lot to me because at the end of the day, society makes us who we are; if they are not there, we are actually not operating.

So, if they are going to be there for us, we can choose one time in the whole year to actually give it back to them so that they can also benefit,” he said.

An Assistant Corporate Communications Officer of GCGL, Yvonne Dasoberi, received the health products on behalf of the company and thanked Top-Up Pharmacy for the support.

This year’s exercise is expected to attract more than 500 residents, with services covering malaria, common cold, eye problems, hypertension, typhoid fever, among others.
Preventive care

The Graphic Annual Free Health Screening has, over the years, provided residents of Adabraka and beyond the opportunity to access medical care at no cost.

Medical doctors and healthcare professionals are available to provide consultation and treatment for common illnesses, while partner organisations bring specialist services in dentistry, eye care and laboratory testing.

The initiative encourages people to undergo routine checks, and helps in the early detection of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol, which can be managed more effectively when diagnosed early.

For many residents, the event also reduces the financial burden of seeking medical care, especially for vulnerable groups who may not have access to regular health services.
