Tragic helicopter crash: Vice-President leads government delegation to sympathise with bereaved families

Two delegations from the Presidency yesterday visited the homes of government and party officials involved in the tragic helicopter crash at Adansi Brofoyedu in the Adansi Krofuom District in the Ashanti Region to officially communicate the demise of the officials to their families.

The crash, which happened in the early hours of yesterday, was confirmed and announced by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, with the nation thrown into a state of mourning as all flags were directed to fly at half-mast in honour of the eight deceased.

The delegations, one led by the Vice-President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and the other led by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, also included the Chief of Staff of the Vice-President, Alex Percival Segbefia; the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson; the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu; and the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

Others were the Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza; the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey; and the Deputy Minister of Land and Natural Resources, Bamboi Yusif Sulemana.

Message

Conveying President John Mahama’s message to the family of the late Alhaji Muniru and the Yagbonwura, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, said the President was deeply saddened by the news and disheartened by the incident, which is why he sent the delegation.

He said that although the incident was difficult to say, what has been decided by Allah could not be changed by anyone.

“Although it is tragic news, as Muslims, we acknowledge that whether we like it or not, we came from him and we will all return to him.

We didn’t all come one day, and when we were coming, we didn’t tell each other.

So it is that we won’t tell each other when we’re going back. Today, by the command of Allah, one of our brothers has joined him,” he said.

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Boniface Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the family, said the family was also taken aback by the tragic incident and had been thrown into a state of mourning.

He, however, stated that as Muslims, they should not be surprised, although it is an unexpected and tragic development.

“No Muslim should be surprised when death comes, but as a Muslim, you don’t know how it will come.

I can see pain in you, and we feel so sad as a family, but when we’re done crying, let’s find strength,” he said.
