Tsikata sues LPG flag bearer
A renowned lawyer and statesman, Tsatsu Tsikata, has dragged the presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, to court for defamation.
The defamatory suit is in connection with Mr Akpaloo’s comments he made on Accra-based GHOne TV in which he said that the reason Mr Tsikata said things were better under former President John Mahama was because “He (Mr Tsikata) was getting contracts under “Mahama" and "he (Mr Tsikata) was getting the best deals".

Mr Tsikata added that Mr Akpaloo further stated and/or implied that "those who were getting the goodies" would be the ones saying what Mr Tsikata had said about former President Mahama.
In the suit which was filed by Tony Lithur at the General Jurisdiction of the High Court, Mr Tsikata is arguing that the words of Mr Akpaloo on the television were egregious falsehoods which impacted negatively on his hard-won reputation.
Also joined in the suit as the second defendant is the Excellence in Broadcasting Network (EIB), operator of the GHOne TV, the platform on which Mr Akpaloo made those comments.

He is, therefore, praying the court for damages for libel and aggravated damages against the presidential candidate.
Aside from praying for punitive cost against the first defendant, Mr Tsikata is also praying for an order of mandatory injunction requiring the defendants to cause to be published similarly to how the defamatory statements were published an apology to the Plaintiff and a withdrawal and retraction of the said words of 1st Defendant about the Plaintiff.
“An order of mandatory injunction requiring GHOne to affix onto the publication of the interview of the 1st Defendant above referred to on its website and other social media handles its apology and the withdrawal and retraction of the false statements of Mr Akpaloo about the Plaintiff”, the suit said.
