
Vice-President donates items, cash to support Afahye
The Vice-President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has donated assorted items and an undisclosed amount of money to the Oguaamanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, and the Oguaa Traditional Council as part of activities to mark this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
The Vice-President’s support and that of the government were extended to the people of Cape Coast towards the annual festival.
The Policy Advisor to the Vice-President on Political Affairs, Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, led a high-powered delegation to the Emintsimadze Palace to make the donation on her behalf, as Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is currently on official assignment in Ethiopia.
The delegation was received by the Oguaamanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, and other members of the traditional council.
Included in the delegation were the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan; the Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah; the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur; the Central Regional Chairman of the Lands Commission, Theophilus Aidoo Mensah, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Vice-President, Dr Ofosu-Ampofo expressed her commitment to celebrating with her people in spite of her absence.
He said the government was committed to supporting economic empowerment initiatives, adding that festivals boosted tourism and brought about economic development.
Dr Ampofo said the Vice-President remained deeply connected to the people of Cape Coast and valued the cultural significance of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
He said that her contribution was a demonstration of her respect for tradition and her desire to share in the joy of the festival, even from afar.
Appreciation
The Oguaamanhene received the items on behalf of the people, and expressed his appreciation to the President, John Dramani Mahama, and the Vice-President for their continuous support and recognition of the importance of culture and tradition.

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta assured the delegation that the traditional council would put the resources to good use by supporting the successful celebration of the festival.
He said the people would continue to pray for the government to continue with the good deeds.
