Works, Housing, Water Resources minister inspects NHF housing projects

The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on housing projects being developed by the National Home Ownership Fund (NHF), describing them as a significant step toward providing affordable housing for Ghanaians.

The minister made the remarks during a working visit to the NHF project sites at Shai Hills and Tema Community 22 last Monday to inspect the projects ahead of the upcoming National Home Ownership Fair.

At Shai Hills, 50 detached housing units, comprising two- and four-bedroom houses, are under construction. At the NHF Phase three Estate at Community 22, 129 two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartment units are also under construction and nearing completion.

Some of the housing units inspected were between 95 and 98 per cent completed.

Mr Adjei explained that the NHF housing projects formed part of the government's efforts to expand access to affordable housing and address Ghana’s housing deficit.

“The visit was to assess progress ahead of the National Home Ownership Fair. From what I have seen, the projects are on track and prospective homeowners can begin discussions on rent-to-own and mortgage options,” he stated.

The two-day National Home Ownership Fair, scheduled for March 4 and 5, 2026, in Accra, is being organised by the National Home Ownership Fund to showcase completed housing units and provide information on affordable homeownership opportunities, particularly for low- and middle-income earners.

The minister said the initiative aligned with the government’s commitment to addressing Ghana’s housing deficit and offering alternatives to the high cost of housing on the open market. He encouraged workers, professional associations and the general public to attend the fair and explore available options.

Mortgage Support

The Chief Executive Officer of the NHF, Prosper Hoetu, said Phase Three of the Tema Community 22 housing project was 92 per cent completed and expected to be finished by the end of March.

He said the Fund was working with partner banks, including the GCB Bank, the Stanbic Bank and the Republic Bank, to provide low-interest, government-backed mortgages.

He added that the NHF was also offering flexible rent-to-own arrangements to make homeownership more accessible to ordinary Ghanaians.
