The gas is expected to add an additional 1100 megawatts of power to the already 1020 megawatts being produced by the Volta River Authority (VRA).

Signing the partnership, President Mahama described the event as a landmark event in the development of oil and gas in Ghana.

According to him, a survey done in terms of what constraints the growth of the Ghanaian economy settled on energy as the most binding constraint.

He was therefore optimistic that the new deal would help stabilise and ensure that Ghana had sufficient power to keep the economy growing at the pace at which it had been doing for some time now.

President Mahama also noted that the gas production should last between 15 and 20 years.

He therefore called on Ghanaians to empathise with government considering the current load management challenging the country.
