The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who will lead the government delegation to the conclave, will, among other functions, engage the Indian business community, during which he will make a case for them to fix their eyes on Ghana.

Participating countries

The Indian government has already received confirmation from 27 other African countries, including South Africa, DR Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Nigeria, Mauritius, Mozambique, Kenya, Mali, The Sudan, Somalia and Uganda, to participate in the summit.

The first CII-EXIM Bank Conclave was held in 2005 and it has emerged as the pioneer event in building partnerships and enhancing the economic engagement between Africa and India.

Relevance

A former Indian President, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, is quoted to have said: “The conclave has become a prestigious event for Indian and African governments and the industry to meet and explore new avenues for partnerships.

“The annual event enables the Indian and African leadership to take stock of the progress of the partnership and address future needs in that regard.”

The increasing participation of African states in the CII has given shape to policy dialogues of the Indian government, the EXIM Bank and the CII whose membership has immensely benefited from that platform.

Thirteen regional conclaves have been organised by the CII in Ghana, Zambia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria and Namibia.

Purpose

The essence of the conclave has been to encourage Indian exporters to assess African countries and increase their presence in the region.

A number of agreements have been signed, with projects worth $256.63 billion over the last 10 editions being multi-pronged target of increasing trade, investment and other development activities that require sustained efforts.
