Mr Amoah runs an ‘On the Road’ charity in Ghana, a force for good that stems from his passion for his motorcycle.

“I enjoy being on the streets and on my motorcycle,” he says. “Seeing someone smile is all the motivation I require.”

He can often be found loading his motorcycle with everything from food for the hungry to chalk for schools and then he rides all over Ghana helping those in need.

Stages of competition

The competition, which started with a public nomination phase on the construction equipment manufacturer’s Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) Facebook page in September last year, saw Kofi Amoah, along with Sara Sarina from Ethiopia, Brenda Shuma from Tanzania, Zimbabwe’s Maria Maliki and Dr. Raphael James from Nigeria selected as finalists.

Mr Amoah edged oput theh otehr competitors during the public vote to claim victory with 53 per cent of the vote.

Reward

In recognition, the SDLG and the SMT dealership in Ghana, which provides sales, service and after-sales support for SDLG construction machines throughout the country, will work with Mr Amoah to support a project of his choice, supplying SDLG equipment, building expertise and funding. He was also presented with a fully serviced motorcycle by SMT Ghana.

Speaking at a presentation, Mr Amoah said winning gave him international recognition for the work he had been doing over the years.

“The work that’s dearest to me is fronting social development here in Ghana, supporting children who face disability or suffer extreme poverty and helping to highlight the dangers when it comes to road safety”, he said.

He added that the competition had already given his work and that of his fellow finalists, exposure in Africa and beyond.

“Winning is beyond amazing! It sends a very loud and clear signal that a major international company such as SDLG and countless individuals around the world believe in someone who wants to make changes.

While on his travels, Mr Amoah says he has seen for himself how dangerous the roads could be.

“I have witnessed many accidents and as a result I felt compelled to become a voice for road safety,” he says.

Mr Denis Pylyser, Managing Director of SMT Ghana who made the presentation commended Mr Amoah for the hard work and said he hoped he would partner SDLG to improve society.
