Girls deserve their voice, equal future – Zonta Clubs of Ghana

The Zonta Clubs of Ghana have urged all Ghanaians to support the Ghanaian girl child have her voice and to make her an equal future.

In a statement issued Sunday to mark the International Day of the Girl Child 2020, the Zonta Clubs of Ghana called for an end to practices such as female genital mutilation, child marriage and violence against women and girls.

Zonta Clubs the world over advocate for the welfare of women and children, and on this occasion the Zonta Clubs of Ghana called specifically on “everyone, young and old, men and women, Civil and Religious Societies and Groups, Queen Mothers and Traditional Rulers, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Media and Government to support the Ghanaian Girl Child have Her Voice to make her Equal Future.”

The 2020 observation of the International Day of the Girl Child was on the theme, “My Voice our Equal Future”, a theme the Zonta Clubs of Ghana described as “perfect for all of us to ponder and Take Action on the various ways we can all come together to assist the Ghanaian Girl Child achieve her best and make the world she SEE the greatness in her.”

“The 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by world leaders in 2015, with special emphasis on Goal No 5 – Gender Equality, embody the roadmap for progress that is sustainable and leaves no one behind. No girl child should be left behind”, the statement said.

“We salute all who everyday work to make the Ghanaian Girl Child’s voice heard. We celebrate every Ghanaian Girl Child.”
