Give Nyerede police post - New Odikro appeals to IGP

The newly enstooled Odikro of Nyerede near Koforidua in the New Juaben South municipality of the Eastern Region, Nana Oduro-Frikyi Abrokwah I, has made a passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong-Boanuh, to establish a police post in the community.

That, according to him, would curb the high rate of crime within the community.

Nyerede lies within the Akuapem Traditional Area but due to its proximity to Koforidua, which is the capital of the New Juaben South municipality, it has been placed within that municipality.

Nana Abrokwah made the appeal at his coronation at Nyerede last Saturday. Four other sub-chiefs for Nyerede were also enstooled.

The sub-chiefs were Nana Koranteng Aboafuo I, Mankradi; Nana Kwadwo Dankwah I, Abontendomhene; Nana Larbi Okosrokpor I, Safohene; Nana Akua Asare Odi I, Mmabahemea and Nana Akosua Okyerebea I, Mankrado Mmabaahemea.

Nana Abrokwah, a retired senior prisons officer, who is known in private life as Mr Henry Oduro Abrokwah, swore the oath of allegiance to a representative of the Abiriwhene, Ogyeahoho Nana Kwame Henaku II.

High crime rate

According to the Odikro, “it has become necessary to station police personnel in the community because of its high crime rate.” That, Nana Abrokwah said, would make it possible to speedily apprehend criminals and other law breakers in the community to make it a safe place for the inhabitants.

To accelerate the development of the community, Nana Abrokwah also appealed to the government to rehabilitate the roads leading to the community to improve the economic life of the people.

He said although Nyerede falls within the Akuapem North municipality, due to its proximity to the New Juaben South Municipality, Nyerede would be better off with the help of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly.

Amenities

Nana Abrokwah said the township lacked basic social amenities such as good roads, a clinic, potable water and a community day senior high school (SHS) and, therefore, appealed to the government to help provide such amenities.

He called for the support of the chiefs and people to enable him to execute the huge task ahead.

The Tufuhene of Abiriw, Nana Asiamah Bekoe, who represented the chief of the traditional area, asked the people to pray for the new Odikro to succeed in whatever he would do to improve their living conditions.

He advised the people of Nyerede not to undermine the administration of the Odikro but rather give him the necessary support so that his reign becomes successful.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Mr Isaac Appaw-Gyasi, assured the new Odikro of the assembly's assistance, particularly the provision of social amenities in Nyerede.
