Gomoa East DCE urges registration of lands

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Gomoa East District Assembly, Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah, has called on chiefs in the area to properly define and register their land boundaries to avoid encroachment and litigation.

He said the rate at which lands in the area were being encroached upon was alarming, and added that almost all the lands had been lost to estate developers.

He made the call during the first annual state council meeting organised by the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council in the Central Region.

Cheaper rates of lands

Mr Ahunu-Armah described the attitude of chiefs who sold their lands at cheaper rates as unfortunate and inappropriate.

“We as an assembly cannot do anything about the sale of your lands. We can only regulate what people do on it. We, therefore, appeal to you to protect your lands from encroachers,” he emphasised.

The situation, he said, if not stopped immediately, could cause the people of Gomoa a great deal, and called on the paramount chief in the area to help rectify the situation.

He hinted that his outfit had put measures in place in order not to lose the land to estate developers.

“When we embark on the exercises those who acquired the lands through wrong and illegal means would have themselves to blame,” Mr Ahunu-Armah added.

He also appealed to the chiefs to assist the assembly as it embarked on a street naming exercise to help in easy identification in the area.

Police administration

The Divisional Visibility Commander of Police at Swedru, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Samuel Amfo, noted that chieftaincy and land disputes were the major problems in the area.

He said it had caused a lot of challenges in the area, but assured residents that the police administration was prepared to protect them.

ASP Amfo called on the chiefs to play their parts to ensure peace in the area and the entire country.

For his part, the Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional area, Obrempon Nyanful Krampah XI, called on the chiefs to attend state council meetings whenever it was announced.

He also indicated that he had abolished the one week celebration after the death of a chief in the area, and added that it involved a lot of money.

Obrempon Krampah admonished the chiefs to be ambassadors of their communities, and ensure that peace always prevailed in the area.

State of education

Speaking on the performance of teachers, the deputy director of Education of the Gomoa East District, Ms Betty Amissah Andoh, said some of the teachers had a lackadaisical attitude to work.

Ms Andoh, who spoke on behalf of the Director of Education, noted that such an attitude was unacceptable and called on the teachers to refrain from that.

In order to bring the situation to a halt, she indicated that her outfit had divided the district into various units to ensure proper supervision.

That, she said, would go a long way to improve the performance of students in the area.
