He expressed the hope that with their experience and wise counsel, chiefs at the Central Regional House of Chiefs would be able to resolve the impasse.

The four-year-old dispute is over the nomination and enstooling of a successor to the late Omanhene, Nana Okese Essandoh VIII.

Nana Dantsi I, who called at the offices of the Daily Graphic on Tuesday to deliver the appeal to his kinsmen via the national daily, said the misunderstanding “doesn’t augur well for unity.”

“The earlier the misunderstanding is resolved, the better it will be for the traditional area in particular and Ghana as a whole,” he remarked.

Background

Giving an insight into the problem, Nana Dantsi I said following the death of the Omanhene, it became necessary, as custom and tradition demanded, for a successor to be nominated from the Royal Twidan Family.

He said the Ebusuapanin (head of family) acted accordingly and his candidate was initially accepted and taken through the requisite formalities for his enstoolment.

Some members of the Royal Twidan Family, however, objected to the enstooling of the new Omanhene, Nana Okese Essandoh IX, making it difficult for him to perform his traditional duties.

Unfortunate situation

Nana Dantsi I, known in private life as Mr William Buckman, described the situation as worrying and unfortunate.

He pleaded with the parties involved in the matter to soften their stance in order to ensure peace, unity and development of the traditional area.

“The best honour and tribute we can pay to the memory of our revered departed Omanhene is to live in peace and amicably support the new Omanhene,” he advised.

Nana Dantsi said the absence of a substantive Omanhene over the past four years was adversely affecting unity and the execution of development projects in the area.

“There cannot be development without unity and peace,” he said.
