He paid a glowing tribute to the staff, the management, the board, as well as the vendors, agencies and readers whose various contributions had resulted in the awards.

He said it was not for nothing that the GCGL excelled at the awards ceremony, adding that as a company, “all of us realise that in the industry that we are, if we don’t innovate and market aggressively, we will die. But Graphic is not going to die”.

Challenge

Touching on the Media Organisation of the Year award, he said the GCGL had won that award over a period and said the organisers should begin to consider granting the company a hall of fame status.

Mr Ashigbey said what was critical for the company was how to convert such laurels into more revenue and profitability, “so that we can satisfy all our stakeholders”.

He also touched on various innovations the company had embarked on in its effort to stand out as the best and mentioned, for instance, that the company was the first to introduce the quick read (QR) code onto the media landscape.

On the Marketing-oriented Organisation award, he expressed the belief that the company deserved the award, citing the various innovative ways it had adopted to reach its readers.
