Group demands justice for assaulted N/R GHA staff
The Ghana Highway Authority Retired Staff Association (GHARSA) has called on President Akufo-Addo to institute appropriate measures in the operations of the country’s national security so as to help put an end to vigilantism.
The association also called on the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), to as a matter of urgency, conduct a thorough investigation into last week’s attack on the Northern Regional office of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) by some youth believed to be members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Statement
A statement signed and issued by the President of the GHARSA/National Executive of the Interim National Coordinating Committee (INCC), Nana Ninsin Imbeah II said the group was shocked about the attack on the GHA’s office.

“We totally abhor such disgraceful attacks and looting of our toll booths across the country anytime there is a change of government, and we want the victims to know that we stand by them at this moment in prayer,” Nana Imbeah said.
“While we sincerely sympathize with the staff of the GHA, who were attacked and also beaten especially Mrs Alberta Akologo, the Secretary to the Northern Regional Highway Director, INCC/GHARSA is considering some other actions to take by next week Tuesday, May 22, 2018, to send the appropriate signals on the issue,” he added.
Attack on GHA
Some youth believed to be members of the NPP on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, attacked the Northern Regional office of the GHA, where they were said to have assaulted some staff of the institution over the award of road contract to persons alleged to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The youth, who were said to be numbering about 30 besieged the office at about 11 a.m in search of the Regional Director of the institution, M Joseph Atsu, who at the time was not in the office, hence holding the workers under hostage while vandalizing some documents at the secretary’s office.
Call
Nana Imbeah has, therefore, called on the security agencies in the region, particularly the Ghana police service to bring to book perpetrators of such ferocious act in order to prevent future occurrence of such incident.
