Gunu, GMB Queen Etornam pay goodwill visit to Ho Cured Lepers Village

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, on Thursday, December 18, paid a goodwill visit to the Cured Lepers Village in Ho, where he donated assorted food items and other supplies to residents to support their Christmas celebrations.

The items included bags of rice and maize, boxes of cooking oil, sachets and bottled water, crates of soft drinks, boxes of chocolate, loaves of bread and packets of toilet rolls, among others.

Mr Gunu said cured lepers were an integral part of society and deserved love, care and kindness at all times to enable them live joyfully, just like other members of the public.

The Regional Minister, who was accompanied by the winner of Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2025, Queen Etornam, as well as municipal and district chief executives in the region, said the gesture reflected the concern of the government and the National Democratic Congress for the welfare of cured lepers.

“We visited you when we were in opposition, and so it is only proper that we visit you again now that we are in power,” he said.

Earlier, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Stephen Adom, said the assembly had taken serious note of the concerns of the village, including the need to improve the access road from Ho to the village, the emptying of the septic tank and the settlement of outstanding electricity bills. He assured residents that the issues would be addressed in the near future.

Meanwhile, Queen Etornam donated GH¢3,000 to the residents to support their Christmas festivities.

The caretaker of the village, Mr Nelson Atito, expressed gratitude for the support, describing the gesture as heartwarming.

He said there were currently about 150 people living in the Cured Lepers Village, including family members of the cured lepers.

Mr Atito appealed to the Regional Minister to continue visiting the community to gain first-hand knowledge of the needs of the cured lepers.
