She said a better way to motivate such people was to give them the appropriate tools, logistics and supplies to work with to enable them to provide efficient and effective healthcare services to the people.

The First Lady was speaking during the presentation of medical supplies to the Kintampo Government Hospital in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The medical supplies were procured by the Lordina Foundation and its partners MedShare USA.

The items includes beds, wheel chairs, mattresses stabilisers gloves syringes and funiture.

Urgent need
She commended all health personnel, particularly those who have chosen to work in the rural areas, not because they do not enjoy city life, but because they have seen the urgent need to save lives in every corner of the country.

Mrs Mahama said the government was committed to improving health facilities across the country but needed the support of other stakeholders in the health sector, NGOs and individuals in order to meet its obligations.

She expressed the hope that those medical supplies would help improve the health services provided at the Kintampo hospital and enhance quality healthcare in the hospital.
Healthcare issues

“One thing we must take note of, as a nation, is that healthcare issues are very important and must engage us in our daily discourse. Remember health is wealth. Therefore, the earlier we detect we are unwell, the earlier we receive treatment”, she said.

She said the inhabitants of Kintampo were renowned for their hardwork and dedication and it was always a pleasure to be among you because I have a personal attachment and liking for this town.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Minster, Mr Eric Opoku, said the government had embarked on a number of roads and infrastructural projects in the region.

Scholarships
He said 50 communities in the region had been hooked on the national grid, while a large number of needy students had also received scholarships from the government to enable them further their education.

He commended the First Lady for her hard work and dedication in ensuring that the health needs of women and children, as well as the vulnerable were catered for.

Kintampo is a transition and commercial town with bright prospects for growth.
