An imam and a pastor have been arrested by the police following separate comments in relation to Prophet Mohammed, which the police considers as inciteful.
Imam Masud Abdullah, 35, was arrested in connection with a video circulating on social media in which he allegedly called for violence against people who spoke ill of Prophet Mohammed.
The said pastor, Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, on his part was picked up by the police following another video circulating on social media in which he allegedly made derogatory and offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed.
A police statement announcing the arrests said Masud Abdullah made the comment during a sermon at a mosque at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of Ashanti.
Abdullah’s arrest followed public condemnation of his statement which indicated that killing anyone who insulted or described Prophet Mohammed as a false prophet was not a sin and would earn the perpetrator a place in heaven, even if the person was arrested.
The National Chief Imam, Sheihk Nuhu Sharabutu, when the imam's comment came to his attention, condemned it.
The Police said investigations into the two cases were ongoing and the suspects would be processed in line with the law on inciting the public against lawful order.
