Interfaith memorial service underway in honour of 2025 military helicopter crash victims

An interfaith memorial service is currently underway at the UPSA Auditorium in Madina, Accra, to commemorate the first anniversary of the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians.

The National Inter-Faith Memorial Service, which began at 8:30 a.m., is being attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, families of the deceased, and members of the public.

The solemn event brings the nation together in prayer and remembrance for the "Departed 8".

The victims included Minister of Defense, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Minister of Environment, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, among others who died when a Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed en route to Obuasi.

Later today, the Ministry of Defence will unveil a memorial cenotaph in their honour.
