
Interior Minister swears in 15-member NADMO Governing Council
Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has sworn in a 15-member Governing Council of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Accra on Thursday, June 12.
Speaking at the event, the Minister underscored the vital role of NADMO in protecting lives and livelihoods before, during, and after disasters. He stressed the organization’s significance in bolstering national resilience and stability, especially in the face of natural disasters, health emergencies, and human-induced crises.
The Minister tasked the newly inaugurated Governing Council with providing strong policy direction and supporting NADMO’s management in the pursuit of its strategic goals. He also called for a people-centered approach to operations—placing communities at the core of disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and risk reduction efforts.
The Minister also urged the Council to operate as a cohesive and united team, guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, professionalism, and patriotism. He encouraged them to be bold in their decision-making, inclusive in their approach, and strategic in their oversight.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s full support, the Minister highlighted the critical importance of collaboration in effective disaster management.
He assured the Council that the Ministry would work closely with NADMO and other relevant agencies to ensure the organization is adequately resourced and fully equipped to respond swiftly and efficiently to disasters.
For his part, the Chairman of the Council, Samuel Atta Mills, emphasized the need for strong collaboration in addressing disasters.
He noted that effective disaster management goes beyond response, it also involves building resilience.
He affirmed that the Council will take a proactive approach to disaster management across the country.
