Joint Police-Military operation in Nkwanta leads to arrest and firearms seizure
A joint Police and Military operation has led to the arrest of a 50-year-old man, Francis Donkor, in connection with the recent violent riots in Nkwanta and its surrounding communities.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service, the operation was conducted on Thursday, August 1, 2025, at about 6:15 pm, following credible intelligence that some individuals involved in the disturbances were in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
The team moved to a location opposite King’s Filling Station Down, where the area was quickly cordoned off to ensure public safety and prevent any escape.
A search conducted on the premises led to the retrieval of two single-barrel guns and four AAA ammunition from the room of suspect Francis Donkor.
“The suspect was promptly arrested, escorted to the Police Station, and is currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations,” the Police said in the statement.
The retrieved weapons and ammunition have been retained as evidence to support the investigation and possible prosecution.
The Ghana Police Service, while reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace and order, cautioned the public against the unlawful possession and use of firearms, particularly in light of recent tensions in the area.
