The suspects, Amadu Addy, alias Junior, 23, and Kwao Fidey, 25, both unemployed, were arrested while they were carrying a dead pregnant goat in a sack at the Kaneshie Bus Stop, near the Takoradi Station, in Accra.

They were paraded before journalists at the Kaneshie District Police Command following their arrest by the Kaneshie Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Foot Patrol Team, recently set up to gather intelligence in the jurisdiction.

46 goats missing in three years

Briefing journalists, the Kaneshie District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, Mr Fleance Adeka, said the owner of the goat (name withheld) told the police that about 50 of his goats had gone missing for the past three years.

Yet, he said the suspects told the police they had stolen only three goats from the residence of the owner of the goat at Kokrobitey.
Mr Adeka said the police also found out that Fidey, who was said to be a notorious goat thief, was wanted by the Kokrobitey District Police.

According to Mr Adeka, members of the Foot Patrol Team spotted the two suspects carrying a heavy sack at about 3 a.m. on June 18, 2015, and after enquiries, found the dead goat in their sack.

During interrogation, the two suspects confessed that the goat was stolen from Kokrobitey, near Weija.

Dead goats sold to customers

The two suspects told the police that they operated between 12 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. when the owner of the livestock was asleep.

He said the suspects said they always killed the goat and put it in a sack after which they conveyed it to James Town, where it was sold at a cheaper price to their customers, who were chop bar operators.

The suspects said the goat was killed in order to make it easy to convey to the selling point without creating any suspicion.
