KGL Foundation screens over 500 in Dambai, boosts blood bank in Oti Region

More than 500 residents of Dambai and its surrounding communities have benefited from a free health screening and blood donation exercise organised by the KGL Foundation as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Oti Region.

The outreach, which drew a large crowd including students from the Dambai College of Education, formed part of the foundation’s broader social intervention to improve access to basic health services, particularly in underserved areas.

Health professionals from the Worawora Government Hospital conducted a range of medical checks for participants at no cost. Beneficiaries underwent screening for blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, weight and blood sugar levels, while also receiving eye examinations, counselling and general health education.

Organisers said the blood collected during the exercise would be donated to the Worawora Government Hospital to support and replenish its blood bank, which plays a critical role in emergency care across the region.

The Programmes Manager of the KGL Foundation, Mr Nii Ankonu Annorba-Sarpei, said the initiative reflected the organisation’s commitment to improving the well-being of communities and expanding access to essential health services.

He emphasised the importance of regular medical check-ups and healthy living, noting that the exercise was particularly necessary as the foundation had not previously undertaken such an intervention in the newly created Oti Region.

Mr Annorba-Sarpei also highlighted the financial burden associated with organising free medical outreaches, explaining that the foundation absorbs the full cost to ensure that individuals who might otherwise be unable to afford healthcare services can benefit.

The exercise forms part of a series of health and social interventions undertaken by the KGL Foundation across the country, aimed at promoting preventive healthcare and community development.

Participants expressed appreciation to the foundation for the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial. Some beneficiaries indicated that their busy schedules often prevent them from visiting health facilities, and called for the programme to be held regularly to enable more people to monitor their health status.
