Korle Bu doctors call off strike after management assurances on laboratory physicians
The Korle Bu Doctors Association has officially suspended its strike action, which began on the morning of Monday, May 4, 2026, following assurances from hospital management regarding the return of Laboratory Physicians to their posts.
In a formal notice addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the Association announced that the decision to call off the industrial action came after a meeting held on Monday morning, during which management provided guarantees concerning the deployment of Laboratory Physicians to the Central Laboratory.
The strike had disrupted Out-Patient services at Ghana's premier teaching hospital, but KODA has now directed all members to resume normal duties effective Tuesday, 5th May 2026.
"We believe the peaceful coexistence of Laboratory Physicians and Medical Laboratory Scientists at the Central Laboratory is best for quality healthcare delivery," the statement, signed by Dr Asare Offei, Chairman of KODA, read.
The association further entreated all members to resume Out-Patient services from tomorrow, 5th May 2026.
The notice was copied to the Director of Medical Affairs at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the Director of Human Resource, the Board Chair of KBTH, all media houses, and the general public.
The swift resolution of the industrial action will come as a relief to thousands of patients who rely on the hospital's outpatient services daily. Further details regarding the specific assurances given by management are expected to be communicated in due course.
