The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital recorded the birth of 46 babies during the last week of December 2025 and the first week of January 2026.
Data from the department showed that 14 babies were delivered on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, followed by 19 births on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025.
Information made available to Graphic Online on Friday, January 2, 2026, by the hospital’s Public Relations Unit indicated that the trend continued into the New Year, with 13 babies born on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The Unit said the hospital’s team of dedicated healthcare professionals worked tirelessly throughout the festive period to ensure the safe delivery of the newborns, bringing joy to many families and adding to the hospital’s record of successful births.
However, it noted that there were three neonatal deaths, one recorded on each of the three days, as a result of complications.
“Our condolences go out to families who lost their precious little ones,” the statement said.
The Public Relations Unit assured the public that the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department would continue to provide quality care to expectant mothers and newborns, reaffirming its commitment to maternal and neonatal health.
