
La Homowo Festival: 25-day ban on noise-making from August 11 – Full list of affected areas inside
The La State Council, in collaboration with the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, and Adentan Municipal Assembly, has declared a ban on noise-making ahead of the 2025 La Homowo Festival.
The restriction will be enforced from Monday, August 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. until Friday, September 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., as part of the annual rites to ensure a solemn celebration under the theme: "RESPECT FOR ALL: THE FOUNDATION FOR A STRONGER SOCIETY."
The ban covers a wide range of areas, including La Township, Kaajiano, Ako Adiei, Nyaniba Estates, Labone, Cantonments, Flagstaff House Area, 37 Military Hospital Area, Tse-Addo, Burma Camp, Legon, Shiashi, Bawaleshi, Okponglo, Mpenhuasem, Ogbojo, Ashale Botwe, Agbogba, Madina-Nkwantanan-Atiman, Adentan, Oyarifa, Teiman, Ayi Mensah, Frafraha, Amanfro, Ashye, Amrahia, and Maale J)).
The council has directed "ALL PEOPLE, CHURCHES, MOSQUES, HOTELS, EATERIES, and other BUSINESS AND SOCIAL CONCERNS" within these zones to adhere strictly to the ban. Violators will face traditional sanctions, with authorities warning of strict enforcement.
The Homowo Festival, a key Ga tradition, marks the end of a historic famine and celebrates abundance. The noise ban, a long-standing custom, ensures the spiritual and cultural observances proceed undisturbed.
Extending goodwill to residents, the La State Council stated: "Niimei wish the People of La and all residents of the La Traditional Area a peaceful and successful Homowo Celebration."
With the ban affecting major commercial, residential, and diplomatic areas—including Cantonments and Flagstaff House Area, the collaborating municipal assemblies are urging full compliance to balance tradition with minimal disruption to daily activities.
