The items, which included bags of rice, assorted drinks, tins of milk, bags of sachet water, were to support the daily upkeep of the inmates who are mostly aged.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the President of LACI, Mr Ernest Kwasi Boateng, said the gesture was part of the organisation’s plan to assist the needy and the less privileged.

He said LACI was formed principally to help address some of the challenges faced by institutions that catered for the needy and the forgotten.

According to Mr Boateng, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Ernesca Construction Company Limited, LACI was determined to provide the basic items that would enhance the livelihood of the less privileged.

Based on that, he said the organisation had outlined series of activities to help support institutions during the festive season.

An inmate of Weija Leprosarium, Madam Gladys Adobea, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the leadership of LACI and urged other corporate institutions to follow suit.

She said the Leprosarium, since its inception some 65 years ago, had relied on the benevolence of individuals and organisations for assistance.

Madam Adobea outlined inadequate infrastructure, lack of social amenities and inadequate funding as the major challenges facing the institution.
