The time has come for Ghanaians to make a collective push towards socio-economic transformation in the country, President John Mahama has said.

Urging the youth during his address at the 58th Independence Day Celebrations in Accra Friday, the President noted that there was no need to sly into purposeless lamentations and self-pity in the wake of prevailing challenges facing the country.

Rather, he said, the current challenges were a test to prove ourselves worthy of inheriting a nation that was liberated from colonialism through the sweat and toil of our fathers.

“We’ve been offered a test to prove ourselves worthy of inheriting this great nation. It is a test that we dare not fail. Failing will amount to a grave injustice to the memory of all those who sweated blood and toil helped construct a great nation that has been handed down to us,” the President noted.

He therefore urged the youth to “…pick up the tools of hand work and plough the fields of challenge in order to sow and nurture the seeds that will enable us collectively reap the fruits of sustainable development.”
