‘Mampong Hospital needs gynaecologist, paediatrician’

The Queenmother of Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Nana Agyakoma Difie, has appealed to the government to, as a matter of urgency, provide the Mampong Government Hospital with a gynaecologist and a paediatrician.

She said although the hospital was the second largest medical facility in the region, it had no gynaecologist to take care of pregnant women or a paediatrician to take care of children, indicating that the situation had made life very unbearable for mothers who had to travel to Kumasi to seek medical assistance for themselves and their children.

Nana Difie made the appeal when the Lordina Foundation presented medical supplies to the Mampong Government Hospital as part of its medical outreach programme.

Items presented
Items presented included hospital beds, mattresses, wheelchairs, office cabinets, overbed tables, infusion stands, breathing circuits, catheters, gloves, syringes, stabilisers, blood collectors and immobilisers.

She expressed her appreciation to the Lordina Foundation for extending her medical charity to the people of Mampong.

Nana Difie also commended the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, who is the National President of the Lordina Foundation, for organising a free medical screening for the people of Mampong about a month ago.

Foundation objective
For her part, Mrs Mahama indicated that the objective of the foundation was to help save lives of people in the hospitals through these donations.

She said to achieve this, the Lordina Foundation had partnered MedShare of USA to procure medical supplies which were being presented to the hospitals, and expressed optimism that the health workers would support the foundation’s effort by working hard to save the lives and provide quality healthcare to the people who visited the facility.

Healthcare delivery
“I am here to support the work of health workers and their quality healthcare delivery efforts. not only that but also to speak with you on issues of prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and the reproductive health of women, as well as cervical and breast cancers” she said.

Mrs Mahama said as the President of the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV and AIDS (OAFLA), she had a duty to work towards the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and AIDS across the country.

HIV free future
She indicated that during her tenure as the President of OAFLA, she was determined to see Ghana move towards an HIV-free future through the Prevention of Mother-to-Child-Transmission, safe sex and reduction of stigma and also significantly reduce the number of cervical and breast cancers that occurred in society by encouraging women to test for HIV and go for regular breast examination by health professionals.
