The participants, made up of 40 women and 30 men, upgraded their knowledge in basic marriage counselling to enable them to counsel both would-be and married couples to live peacefully and successfully.

Addressing the participants, an educationist and theologian, Professor Stephen Adei, urged the counsellors to make effective use of the knowledge they had acquired to ensure peace in the home.

He said counselling was for transformation to prevent divorce, which has led to many broken homes, and advised husbands to look up to ‘Christ as the head of the home’ and collaborate with their wives who are expected to play the role of ‘general managers.’

Christian virtues

He noted that Christian virtues called for selflessness and kindheartedness and added that peace in marriages and in the home positively impacted on family unity and cohesion, leading to sustained peace at the various levels of national development.

Prof. Adei advised couples to avoid hypocrisy and love one another wholeheartedly to make marriages blissful and peaceful, stressing that truth, honesty and sincerity were the basis for prosperous marriages.

The Resident Pastor, Rev. Ntakrahene Osei Kwabena, explained that the church held family life programmes twice every year to build a foundation for happy and sustainable marriages and peace in the Christian home.

He said that was meant to curb divorce, which is on the increase, stressing that even in the church, some marriages did not last for more than one month.
