Mfantsipim old boys induct new executives

A nine-member National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) has been inducted into office to replace the old body that served the association for 18 years at a ceremony in Accra.

The induction was held to mobilise and energise the old boys’ fraternity for resource mobilisation, seek divine guidance for the new leadership, and formally introduce the new leadership to MOBA members and the general public, especially stakeholders in education promotion.

The new NEC has Captain Joe Forjoe (MOBA ’73), as President (Ebusuapanyin); Mr Emmanuel Kotey Hammond (MOBA ’67), the Vice-President; Mr Kofi Bentum Coleman (MOBA ’76), Secretary and Mr James Kodwo Morgan (MOBA ’77), the Vice-Secretary.

The other executive members are Mr Charles Darko Cobbina (MOBA ’83), Organiser; Mr Kwesi Wilson (MOBA ’94), Vice-Organiser; Mr William Parry Aboagye (MOBA ’73), Treasurer; Mr Kofi Ammaniampong (MOBA ’98), Vice-Treasurer and Mr A. K. Gyasi (MOBA ’65), Executive Member.

During their two-year tenure, the new executive plans to revive the financial position of the association to strongly support the development of the Mfantsipim School.

Re-dig the old wells

Delivering the sermon at the induction service on the theme, “Let’s re-dig the Old Wells”, Rt Rev. Dr Nuh Ben Abubakre, the former Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, who based his sermon on Genesis 26: 1-6 and 12-22, tasked the new NEC to help with the development of the school.

He lamented that since 1976 till now, the school’s population had continued to increase, leading to the breakdown of discipline and the lack of motivation on the part of students to excel while headmasters, housemasters and teachers did not live up to expectation.

“I charge the newly-elected executive council members and all old boys to help the school continue to live up to its traditions, its achievements and its reputations, by re-digging the old wells and digging new ones so as to make even greater contributions still to the development of our dear country,” he said.

President’s Speech

In his acceptance speech, the President of the new executive, Captain Joe Forjoe, pledged their commitment to commence works to change the fortunes of the school.

He also said they would work with the management of the school and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to address the problem of overcrowding at the school which was a major cause of the sanitation problems in the school.

Captain Joe Forjoe further hinted that they were working with Tullow Oil on the refurbishment of the science laboratory and hoped to have the project completed for the celebration of next year’s Founder’s Day.

He nonetheless said the Tullow sponsorship was anchored on a promise that old boys would make a provision of at least $20,000 each year for the maintenance of the science laboratory.

Present at the induction ceremony were over 800 MOBA members made up of old boys from 1951 to 2013, the Vice President of Ghana, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, an old boy, the outgoing Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, the Most Rev Emmanuel Asante, the incoming Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Most Rev. Awortwi Pratt, sister old student groups from Mfantsiman Girls, Adisadel College and Wesley Girls High School, the headmaster of the school and other members of the clergy.
