Mpox cases in Ghana rise to 108
Ten new Mpox cases have been confirmed in Ghana, bringing the total number of infections to 108, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said.
The latest figures, contained in an update released on June 20, 2025, indicate that none of the newly confirmed patients have been hospitalised and no deaths have occurred.
According to the GHS, those affected are showing common symptoms such as fever, skin rashes, and swollen lymph nodes.
The Service added that all the new cases are being managed under outpatient care, with no severe complications reported so far.
This development follows an earlier update issued on June 16, which placed the national case count at 98. At the time, health authorities confirmed that there were no fatalities or hospital admissions, though previous figures had included two patients under hospital care.
In an official advisory, the GHS cautioned individuals to stay alert and observe basic hygiene. “Keep your hands clean and avoid close physical contact,” the advisory stated. The Service also encouraged people to watch for symptoms and seek medical attention promptly.
Contact tracing and community surveillance are ongoing in affected areas, as health workers continue efforts to limit the spread of the disease.
Mpox is a viral illness that spreads mainly through direct contact with an infected person. It usually begins with symptoms such as fever, muscle pain and fatigue, followed by the appearance of a rash on the face, chest, genitals, or limbs.
Most cases clear up without complications, but doctors say children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems may be more likely to suffer complications.
The GHS says it will continue to provide updates and public health information through its regular channels. Ghanaians are being advised to avoid sharing personal items, practise good hand hygiene, and report any symptoms to the nearest health facility.
Authorities also urge the public to seek information from official sources and not to rely on unverified claims circulating on social media.
