The father of the lady at the centre of the alleged abduction and gang rape in Takoradi has broken his silence on the matter and explained his daughter is not known to be suffering from a psychiatric disorder.

Speaking Thursday morning on Peace FM, the father, Mr Samuel Oduro Antwi, a native of Oda in the Eastern region explained that the real name of his daughter was Naana Apea Antwi and was born on October 2, 1989.

He said she chose the Nigerian name because about eight to nine years ago, she worked with a Nigerian who was called Ayoka in his communication centre.

Ayoka, he said treated Naana as his own daughter and that explained why she decided to use the Nigerian name.

Mr Antwi told the host of the Peace FM morning show, Kwame Sefa Kayi that he first heard about the incident on Tuesday morning while listening to Oman FM, a radio station in Accra.

He said he was not sure it was his daughter because he had not seen the said pictures but he decided to go to Takoradi together with his wife to go and verify.

He said it was after he had visited her in hospital at Takoradi, and confirmed that it was indeed his daughter that he saw the said distasteful pictures afterward.

He admitted he hardly met the daughter in person in recent times but said she visits them occasionally.

Mr Antwi said the last time he visited her in Takoradi was about four years ago when she worked at Melody FM and added that within the period, he never heard about any bad incident in connection with his daughter.

He said the police accounts in the media that a similar thing had happened before has not come to his attention and that he disagreed with the police account.

According to him there was a contradiction in the police accounts on radio and the discussions he had with them [police] in Takoradi when he visited Naana at the hospital on Wednesday.

He insisted his daughter was not known for having any psychiatric disorder and was doubtful she would embark on such an ordeal deliberately.

I told the clinical psychologist that Naana had no known mental problem and doubts if she would do that deliberately.

Mr Antwi said he would rather wait for the police to meticulously go into the incident before he can admit that she probably deliberately staged the whole incident.

Naana Antwi has since been transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra with her mother. The father explained he would join them later since he had to pass through Oda on Wednesday evening to pick some more cash as they were being transferred from Takoradi to Accra.

Naana Apea Antwi, the presenter of Takoradi-based YFM who is commonly known among her work colleagues as Ada was said to have been abducted last week and sexually assaulted by unknown individuals. She was found Tuesday morning and has since been receiving treatment at the GHAPOHA Hospital in Takoradi.

She had been missing for about five days while her alleged abductors reportedly took pictures of her sexual ordeal and posted same on Facebook. Some of the pictures have also been circulating on Whatsapp.

Doubts

However, information the police have gathered points to the fact that the whole incident may have been staged.

The inspector General of Police (IGP) Wednesday directed that the case be transferred to Accra because according to the police information the whole incident, whether it was staged or indeed happened as has been claimed by the lady took place in Accra.
