It had the objective of educating people in rural communities on how to prevent bush and domestic fires in the area.

District NADMO Coordinator

Addressing the residents at Ofoase, Nampong, Domoki and Brahabekum, the District Coordinator for NADMO, Mr John Kuntu Blankson, said that government spent a lot of resources in the form of relief items during disasters,  which could have been prevented.

He noted that such funds could have been channelled into other development projects if the people were well educated on how to prevent and manage disasters.

He urged farmers to be extra careful in setting fires in bushes, adding “a little more caution by farmers could prevent most of the fires.”

Fire Coordinator

The Agona West Municipal Fire Coordinator of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Station Officer 1, Mr Stephen Agortor, urged farmers to create fire belts always before setting fire in their farms, to prevent bush fires.

He indicated that adherence to such practices would prevent the destruction of food items.

He advised the residents to take the education on fire seriously since it would help prevent most fires, as well as prevent people from losing the property they had taken years to acquire.

Presiding Member

The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Samuel Richard Ziggah, also said the areas chosen for the education were prone to disasters and urged the people to apply the knowledge they had acquired to enable them protect their properties.
