Nestlé Ghana commissions employee fitness gym to promote well-being, productivity

Nestlé Ghana Ltd. has commissioned a state-of-the-art employee fitness gym to promote health, safety, and well-being in the workplace.

The initiative, known as the Wellness Hub, is located at the company's head office in Dzorwulu.

It reflects Nestlé’s commitment to its core values of safety and care by encouraging employees to adopt healthier lifestyles.

The Wellness Hub is designed to reduce health risks, enhance productivity, and promote regular exercise and overall wellness among staff.

The multifunctional gym features a cardio section equipped with stationary bikes and treadmills, as well as benches for stretching, yoga mats, and ab rollers. It also includes various cardio and bodybuilding equipment to cater to different fitness needs.

The official launch event, held in Accra on Monday, September 1, brought employees together for yoga demonstrations, aerobics sessions, and lively drumming and dancing activities.

These activities created a sense of unity and excitement among staff, while highlighting the fun and social aspect of the fitness drive.

Power of exercise

Inaugurating the club, Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana, Ms. Salomé Azevedo emphasized the importance of self-care and daily choices.

She acknowledged the many roles and responsibilities people juggle in life but stressed that none of these can be fulfilled without first prioritizing one's own health and well-being.

She also highlighted the transformative power of exercise, pointing out that modern lifestyles often involve long periods of inactivity, which is contrary to how humans are meant to live.

Regular movement and exercise, Ms Azevedo said, are essential not only for living longer but for staying strong enough to care for family and future generations.

Her message was a call to action: prioritize personal health through consistent exercise as a foundation for a balanced, fulfilling life.

She also expressed gratitude to the staff who contributed immensely to the realization of the gym at the head office.

"Yes, there will be a hundred priorities in your life. There will be so many responsibilities, things, deadlines, things that you have to do. You also need to be so many things for everybody. You need to be a daughter, you need to be a son, you need to be a father, you need to be a mother, you need to be a cousin, you need to be a sister. So many things and so many people demanding of you."

"But you can't be any of those things if you don't take care of yourself first. So prioritize yourself. Exercise is so transformative," she said.

Productivity

For her part, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager at Nestlé Ghana, Deborah Kwabla said the commissioning of a new wellness hub and recreational area at the company’s head office, complemented a similar facility already available at their Tema factory.

She emphasized that employee health is essential to productivity, and productivity drives business success.

Mrs Kwablah mentioned that the investment in wellness facilities, along with the presence of an in-house doctor, reflects Nestlé Ghana’s genuine commitment to caring for its workforce.

"These initiatives aim to promote a healthier, more engaged workforce, reduce medical costs, and demonstrate that the company values its employees’ overall well-being," she said.
