Referral of Pwalugu loan agreement: Majority Leader’s intervention guides Speaker’s ruling

The Daily Graphic in its Wednesday, February 12, 2020 edition reported on the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye’s referral of the contract agreements on the Pwalugu multi-purpose dam and irrigation projects to the Joint Committees on Agriculture and Mines and Energy.

The report should have mentioned that the Speaker’s ruling to refer the agreements to those committees was based on the intervention of the Majority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, on Friday, February 7.

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, during a submission on the project that Friday, submitted that the contract agreements on the projects had already been referred to the Finance Committee, hence there was the need for the matter to be referred to the Joint Committees on Agriculture, Mines and Energy.

At its sitting last Tuesday, February 11, the Speaker told the House that the decision to refer the contract agreements on the hydropower dam, irrigation and solar power projects followed an application by the Majority Leader, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu last Friday (February 7).

The omission of the Majority Leader’s position and the inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.
