Nkrankwanta celebrates schools environment day

The District Chief Executive for Dormaa West, Mr Paul Donkor, has pledged that the assembly will ensure good health and quality education for the people in the district.

He said sanitation and waste management issues remained a major challenge to the government and as a new district, the assembly was committed to respecting and obeying the rules in order for the people to enjoy safe and clean environment to provide good health.

Mr Donkor made these remarks at the launch of the Ghana National Scholarship Beneficiaries Association (GNASBA), Schools Environmental Sanitation Education Campaign jointly organised by GNASBA, the Dorman West District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service at Nkrankwanta in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The highlights of the programme were a 3-hour clean-up exercise at Nkrankwanta, Diabaa, Krakrom and Yaakrom and the presentation of 60 litter bins donated by Fan Milk Limited to 20 selected first and second cycle schools.

He commended Fan Milk Limited and GNASBA for choosing the new district to also reach out to them.

In his opening address Baffour Akwasi Oppong, the National Chairman of GNASBA, said the National Sanitation Programme would intensify the good work of GNASBA and Fan Milk Limited, initiated some 22 years ago, by involving the countryís schools and colleges in clean-up exercises and tree planting.

He appealed to various communities to support and participate in the national sanitation activities to ensure cleanliness in their communities.

The District Director for Ghana Education Service (GES) and Chairman for the occasion, Mr Nelson Addai-Poku, appealed to Ghanaians to change their attitudes to help improve sanitation in the country.
