No opposition MP was harassed by the state security agencies during our time -Ntim Fordjour

The former Deputy Minister for Education, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has claimed that under the eight-year leadership of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, no opposition Member of Parliament (MP) was ever harassed by state security agencies for demanding investigations in the course of parliamentary oversight.

His statement follows an incident on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, where operatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) reportedly stormed his residence in an attempt to arrest him.

The alleged attempt to arrest Rev Fordjour came after he raised concerns about two suspicious flights that landed at Kotoka International Airport under circumstances he believes point to possible drug trafficking and money laundering.

Rev Fordjour emphasised that during President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, even the harshest criticisms and calls for inquiries from opposition MPs were handled with tolerance and without intimidation.

"The level of intolerance demonstrated by President Mahama in his reaction to a press statement of the Minority Cause simply demanding probes into various matters of urgent and serious public interest, is unprecedented and a major setback in our democratic pursuit," he asserted.

He further claimed that the NIB officers entered his home without presenting a warrant, alleging that their actions were politically motivated and sanctioned by the current administration to intimidate him for raising legitimate concerns on behalf of the Minority Caucus.
