He said with the onset of the rains there was the likelihood of an outbreak of diseases such as cholera if best environmental practices were not strictly observed.

Making reference to Accra in the Greater Accra region, he said, anytime there was an a outbreak of cholera in the national capital, Adoagyiri and Nsawam were the first to attract the disease and said with devastating nature of the rains and contamination of the environment, Ghanaians, should be mindful, of what they drink and eat.

Mr. Inkumsah said this in an interview with Graphic Online during a joint disinfection exercise between Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management company and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

The three-week disinfection exercise will have all sanitary facilities and refuse dumps sites sprayed with chemicals in all municipalities and districts in the Eastern region

Mr. Inkumsah was happy that so far no cases of cholera has been reported after the recent heavy rains in Accra and hoped that this would continue.

The Eastern Regional Vecta Control Officer of Zoomlion, Mr. Maxwell Agbosu, commended the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region for their support towards the programme.

He was happy the national sanitation day activities has gone a long way to create awareness about environmental cleanliness since people were now conscious about littering their surroundings.

He appealed to parents not to encourage their children to visit dump sites since that was hazardous to their health.
