Representatives from the organisation are to embark on a nationwide tour to gather signatures and pledges towards peace from all stakeholders.

The climax of the campaign will be held in Accra November 5, 2016  with President John Dramani Mahama and other presidential candidates in attendance.

The president of the foundation and veteran musician, Obiba Sly Collins stressed on the need to preserve the country's peace in this year's election and beyond.

He explained that he was embarking on the peace campaign dubbed “Protecting the Peace of Our Land" because economic growth can only be possible in a peaceful country.

He cautioned the youth not to allow themselves to be used as thugs by politicians in the elections but rather to promote peace .He also advised journalist to be circumspect in their reportage because it is a potential landmine that could lead the country to chaos.

In an address, the General Secretary of Obiba foundation, Ms Cyndy King-Batsios said, “If we picture a peaceful country and its creative coexistence as an edifice, the ideals of human rights and human security are key pillars that hold it up, while the basis on which these rest is respect for the dignity of life.

“Peace is an inevitable element a country thrives on for economic growth, for without peace every activity comes to a standstill hence hindering a country’s growth and sustainable development. If this basis remains no more, the entire structure will be unstable and could collapse in the event of a severe crisis or war,” she added

She also explained why the foundation used a calabash as a symbol of peace in the campaign.

“In Ghana it is understood that the calabash is used for drinking water.”

“It is very useful in serving many at a time but what happens when the calabash is broken? It loses its usefulness and even when repaired it cannot serve its purpose. It is therefore imperative on our part to protect the calabash so it doesn’t break”, she concluded.
