Police arrest three in Obuasi robbery swoop, retrieve GH¢20,000 and pump-action gun
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three men suspected of being part of a robbery network operating in parts of Obuasi.
The suspects, Aziz Abubakar, also known as Romeo, Faraway Amari and Patient Asare, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation.
According to a police Facebook post on Thursday, the arrests took place on February 15, 2026, when police raided several hideouts at Mangoase near Pokukrom believed to be linked to the group.
Police said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal networks within Obuasi and nearby communities.
A search at the hideouts led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun with ammunition, machetes, a bayonet, combat boots, one 9mm round and cash amounting to GH¢20,000, which police suspect to be proceeds from criminal activity.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, have linked two of the suspects to the killing of three people at Breme near Bechem in the Bono Region in March 2025.
The police said efforts were underway to track down other accomplices believed to be on the run and to recover additional weapons.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command gave the assurance that intelligence-led operations would continue as part of efforts to restore calm and strengthen security in Obuasi and its surrounding communities.
