Offinso Traditional Council to build office, residential accommodation ; For divisional police

The chiefs constituting the Offinso Traditional Council have pledged to contribute personally to a number of building projects in aid of the Offinso Divisional Police Command. The projects include a two-storey office building and residential accommodation for officers of the command.

According to the chiefs, the initiative was to forestall attempts to relocate the divisional police command to Ahenkro due to poor infrastructure.

Since attaining a divisional status, the Offinso Police Command has been operating from a rented apartment. Staff of the service are also lodging in rented accommodation.

Late last year, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Nathan Kofi Boakye, said the deplorable state of the offices from which the Offinso Police functioned did not merit its tag as a divisional command and hinted that the Regional Police Administration was considering the situation carefully.

He warned that if nothing was done about it, the division would have to be moved from Offinso to Ahenkro.

This is what has fired up the chiefs of the Offinso Traditional Council to want to contribute to the building projects for the police in Offinso.

Contribution from Nananom

Led by the Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenten III, the chiefs pledged to donate bags of cement and iron rods to support the construction of a two-storey office for the police.

Mpehihene, Nana Sir Osei Sarpong, personally pledged to donate 50 bags of cement.

The Offinsohene commended the sub-chiefs for their determination and urged them to put their intentions into practical purpose in order to make the construction of the office and accommodation a reality.

He said an acre of land had already been secured awaiting construction works to begin and called for support from the community.

He said a five-member committee had been set up to help prosecute the project to its successful completion.

He called on citizens of Offinso resident abroad to support the project and also help develop Offinso in general.
