Oguaamanhen honoured with public lecture as part of 25th anniversary

As part of activities to mark his 25th anniversary, the Oguaamanhen, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II has been honoured with a public lecture organised by the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU).

The lecture was delivered by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research of CCTU, Prof. Emmanuel Kwamina Bamfo-Agyei on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

It was on the topic, "Unity and Revitalisation of Departments in Oguaa: The Case of the Koto."

Prof. Emmanuel Kwamina Bamfo-Agyei called for unity towards accelerating the development of Cape Coast.

The occasion was a testament to the harmonious blend of cultural reverence and academic prestige at the institution.

It highlighted the Oguaamanhen's dedication and commitment to serving as an inspiration, promoting the importance of unity, resilience, and adaptability in leadership.

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II ascended the Oguaa throne in 1999. 

Some of his notable achievements include promoting cultural preservation and heritage tourism, supporting education and youth development programmes, advocating for environmental conservation and sustainability, and fostering community development and infrastructure growth. He is married with four children.

Resilience

Prof. Bamfo-Agyei eulogized Osabarimba describing him as a resilient leader, one who was not easily deterred by obstacles.

He used the metaphor of a crab to illustrate Osabarimba's resilience to support his people.

He pointed out that, while crabs were often associated with the negative "pulling down syndrome," he, Prof Bamfo-Agyei saw them differently.

He observed, "when crabs are in a bucket and want to move to the top, some sacrifice to endure for others to go up so that everybody will support each other."

Adaptability

He also praised Osabarimba for his adaptability in leadership. 

Prof. Bamfo-Agyei highlighted how Osabarimba had transformed Cape Coast into a place where everyone feels welcome and could easily adapt adding this adaptability had made Cape Coast a favored destination for visitors.

Recognition and gratitude

The Vice-Chancellor of CCTU, Professor Kweku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, for his part expressed gratitude to Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II for his dedication and contributions to Oguaaman. 

He praised Osabarimba's efforts towards the peace and development of the area and encouraged him to continue his good work, believing that these actions would greatly benefit Oguaaman.

Osabarimba's response

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II expressed appreciation to the university for the honour saying he was thrilled to know that his efforts and that of the Oguaa Traditional Council were being recognised. 

He promised to continue to work to introduce new strategies to improve the growth.
