Oil marketing association turns 10
The Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs) has celebrated its 10th anniversary in Accra with the induction of five new members into its fold.
Members of the association who have distinguished themselves over the past decade were honoured at the ceremony last Friday, which also marked the 2013 Executive Revellers Dinner.
Those honoured included the 12 founder members of the AOMCs and individuals who have served the association in various capacities over the years.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of the Best Depot Award to Chase Petroleum for being the most successful company in maintaining health, safety, security, environmental and other highly-regarded industry standards.
“This is a big surprise for the company,” the Managing Director of Chase Petroleum, Mr Daniel Amoah, said after receiving the award from the Board Chairman of the AOMCs, Mr Emmanuel Abledu.
With only 12 members at its establishment in 2003, the membership of the AOMCs has now grown to 63, making it one of the most formidable groupings in the oil industry in Ghana.
Mr Abledu said plans were far advanced for the association to build its own office complex, assuring members that “We’ll grow from strength to strength.”
He urged members to help raise standards in the industry in order to attract minimum sanction from the regulator.
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the AOMCs, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Duah, said the achievements of the association called for celebration.
The Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr Benjamin Dagadu, who was the guest of honour at the ceremony, lauded the AOMCs for its achievements over the years.
He said forming such an association would help oil marketing companies relate better with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and ensure good management of the industry.
Present at the ceremony were the Chief Executive of the NPA, Mr Alex Mould, and the President of the Petroleum Retailers Association of Ghana, Mr S. Y. Apedoe.
