Farmer jailed for defiling six-year-old girl
An 18-year-old farmer has been sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court for defiling a six-year-old girl.
The convict, Awudu Issaka, was charged with defilement and was sentenced on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Inspector S. Opoku Mensah told the court, presided over by Mr Nathaniel K. E. Osam, that the victim lived with the complainant, Kwaku Arhin, in the same house as the accused at Gomoa Denkyira.
He said at about 1:10 p.m. on June 9, 2013, the victim went to Issaka’s room to watch television.
Issaka took advantage of the absence of the occupants in the house, pounced on the victim and had sexual intercourse with her.
According to the prosecutor, a formal report was made to the Gomoa Dawurampong Police who effected Issaka’s arrest and handed him over to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police Service at Agona Swedru.
However, in his caution statement, the convict stated that on that day, the victim told him that her private parts were itching so he had sexual intercourse with her.
