Police confirm one person dead in renewed Sampa chieftaincy violence

The police have restored calm in Sampa in the Bono Region after renewed chieftaincy disturbances on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, left one person dead and several others injured.

In a Facebook post, the Ghana Police Service said the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, had deployed reinforcement teams to Sampa and adjoining communities.

The police added that security had been tightened with increased patrols to maintain law and order and to protect residents.

It will be recalled that on March 29, 2024, four men were shot dead in clashes linked to the Sampa chieftaincy dispute.

Several others, including a 12-year-old boy who was struck by a stray bullet, sustained gunshot wounds. The boy was later referred to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The violence was triggered by rivalry between two claimants to the Sampa stool.
